They say overlanding is self-reliant travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. It is typically accomplished with an off-road capable vehicle where the principal form of lodging is rooftop tenting or camping. The journey often lasts for extended periods of time and may span international boundaries.
With a two door Jeep, space is at a premium, making a roof rack a necessity. I conducted a google search for “best overlanding roof racks, then skimmed through the results looking for independent reviews.
There were a number of roof racks that fitted my 2008 Jeep Wrangler 2 door, and the choice was based on customer reviews, fit, and looks. I ordered the Garvin Industries’ Expedition Rack.
The Expedition Rack is a durable system that can haul a generous amount of gear, as well as support a tent. Available for 2 and 4-door Wranglers, the Expedition Rack can hold up to 300 pounds of gear, or 600 pounds of static weight. There are also various accessories that can be attached for light bars, ladders, crossbars, and other gear.
I unboxed all components and read the instructions. It looked straight forward. I also reviewed the video posted on the Garvin Industries website. With the instructions ready, I installed the system without and issues.
If you’re looking for a roof rack for your jeep, I encourage you to consider the Garvin Industries’ Expedition Rack.
