The heavy overnight rain continued into the morning, drenching everything and everybody while we packed up. After changing into dry clothes, a hot tea and light meal, we left at 11am, then drove under heavy cloud and through frequent downpours.

When we arrived in Loretto to replenish supplies, the roads were a mess. The heavy rain had flooded a number of streets, and the road construction areas were churned into a quagmire. We found an area to park and walked the rest of the way to the shop. We had to make a u-turn to get out of the blocked muddy street, then head back the way we had come into town.

We returned to the MEX 1, and continued south towards our next stop in Puerto Escondido. When we arrived at Tripue Campground, we were advised they weren’t open for the season yet. After a bit of negotiation, they allowed us to stay, but not in the campground. It was being used as a Donkey paddock.

Draining the black and gray tanks

They allowed us to drain our tanks in the camping area, then we were directed to overnight in the hotel parking lot. It was level, and had both water and 15 amp power plug.

We explored the lush tropical gardens and had a meal in their dining room. We were very happy with the staff, and how they made arrangements to accommodated us outside their regular travel season.
