We had a good night in the parking lot at Tripue Campground, packed up, then continued south through a lush mountainous landscape. We were following Steve and Lisa on our way to La Paz.

When we arrived on the outskirts of town, we pulled over and said our farewells to Steve and Lisa as they were heading off to a different campground.

We continued to Marea Hotel, which had access to a camp site next door. When we looked around, we realized it was badly run down and they were planning renovations in the future. They said they would clean out a site for us if we wanted to stay. We also looked at their glamping tents. We were interested in booking two tents for when our four sons flew down for their Christmas vacation.

While we were looking around, we bumped into Steve who was also looking for a site at Marea. We all changed our plan and headed back to the outskirts of La Paz and camped at Maranatha RV Park. The site was shaded, clean and well laid out for big rigs and trailers.

When Steve and Lisa had finished their trailer set up, we all headed into town for dinner at J&R Ribs, then took a nice evening walk along the Malecon.

The next day we stopped in at Walmart to pick up a few trailer supplies, then headed back to the campground. Chris and Kelly arrived in their schoolie, then set up camp with all of us.

After seeing the setup at Marea Hotel, we realized it wouldn’t be the best location to vacation with our four sons. Susan started researching other places that offered better fishing and outdoor activities.

During our stay and evening chats at La Jolla Beach Camp outside Ensenada, Christina and Jeff had rave reviews about Los Barilles. They told us that Los Barriles was their final stop where they would overwinter.

The next morning Chris and Kelly left in schoole for La Vantana, then Steve and Lisa left for Los Barriles. We decided to make a round trip to see La Vantana, El Sergento, and Los Barriles.

The first two towns were okay, but as soon as we drove into Los Barriles, Susan’s eyes lit up and said she could live here.

We looked around town, then headed over to meet with Steve and Lisa, and Christina in their campgrounds – tight space. We continued to look around at Playa Norte. It was out of town and didn’t suit our needs.

We all met at El Gecko for lunch

We looked at East Cape RV. They had space but we would have to park in an overflow area. It was further from the beach than we wanted, they didn’t really have space for the boys, and were more expensive than we wanted. We made a temporary reservation. Daylight was running out so we headed back to our campsite in LaPaz.

That evening, out of curiosity, Susan researched other places to stay in Los Barriles. She found Martin Verdugo’s Beach Club. The reviews were good, they had affordable hotel rooms on site for the boys, they were right on the beach, they had a pool, they had free wifi, and they were central to the shops, banks, and restaurants. It sounded like the perfect location, so we packed up, had a few sips of wine, made plans to leave La Paz, and check it out in the morning.
